About

THE HISTORY

Built in 1942, the building was originally used as a WWII boarding house for soldiers.  It then became known as the Pakalana Hotel (later the Pakalana Inn). 89 years later, its timeless charm remains in the heart of Hilo.  Under new family management, the Inn was renovated and updated in 2025.  We are now affectionately known as the Hilo Town Inn!

BELOVED HILO TOWN

We are truly as close as it gets! Below the Hilo Town Inn are two famous restaurants - Paul’s Place for a five star breakfast and Koji’s Bento Corner for local-style lunch. We are steps from the world-famous Hilo Farmers Market, top-rated restaurants, Hilo Bay, Palace Theater, and Lyman Museum; A 5-minute drive to Rainbow Falls, Kaumana Caves, Coconut Island, Liliuokalani Botanical Garden, and the Imiloa Astronomy Center; A short 30-min drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Akaka Falls.

We love to host ohana for extended stays during Hilo's many special gatherings like Merrie Monarch, IVF World Sprints Championship, KWXX Ho’olaule’a, and University of Hawaii Hilo Graduation. As well as, weekend getaways to enjoy our town's vibrant First Friday events and live music scene.

FIVE-STAR REVIEWS

"Hilo Town Inn provided the most exceptional experience. I visited Hilo alone and was a bit apprehensive to select a new hotel outside of the corporate system. 5 stars for location, 5 stars for the cleanliness standard. The room is so spacious with a proper kitchenette & fridge accompanied by everything you need, including new Keurig coffee maker. There is also Paul’s Place downstairs to offer the best breakfast you will have in your stay in Hawaii. Over the moon with my experience at Hilo Town Inn❤️" - Jennifer C

"A new place to Air BNB in a great location downtown, run by some of the kindest people we've met - and thoughtful, not only in welcoming us, but in attention to every detail in the place. Provided a perfect spot for us to walk next door to the farmers market, to dinner at Pineapple's or the waterfront park - with free parking behind the building, too. Above a great little coffee shop, it felt secluded in a way, yet close to everything. Clean and inviting, a great mix of modern decor meeting old world charm and perfect for our travels. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to spend time in Hilo or simply for an overnight during island travels. We loved everything about it!" - Steve
